Kimbery Bowen

FOUNDER & PRESIDENT

Ms. Bowen is a volunteer director and holds the presidents position of Welcome Home Veterans, Inc. Ms. Bowen is currently the owner/operator of two assisted living homes in Owosso and Elsie, Mi. Both homes received the Circle of Excellence awards in 2013. She has been a registered practicing nurse for the past 25 years and remains current with The Cardio-Thoracic Institute of Lansing, Mi. In 2013 she was campaign manager to a team of 25 people who collectively raised $103,000 for the PFC Shane Cantu Scholarship Fund in memory of a local fallen hero. In her travels throughout various countries she has gained a deep appreciation for those who pay the price to maintain our freedom. Realizing the serious need for a veterans home in Shiawassee County, Ms. Bowen is passionate about her commitment to make Welcome Home Veterans a success. With a strong background in writing, public speaking and substantial community involvement, she brings a broad range of talent and experience to the organization.

Benjamin Frederick

Executive Official

State Rep. Frederick has pledged his continued support and service as the ex-officio director on the Board. Rep. Frederick’s continued service and experience is a strong asset to building the relationship between Welcome Home Veterans and the community it serves. Prior to his election to the Legislature in 2016, Rep. Frederick served as a legislative staff member for 14 years in both the Michigan House and Senate, including time as chief of staff to former state Sen. Roger Kahn, M.D., of Saginaw. Locally, Ben served on the Owosso City Council since 2007 and was city’s youngest mayor, holding that office for seven years. His strong support of our veterans is exemplified in the significant amount of work that he’s been involved with, including but not limited to developing legislation on behalf of veterans, testifying in support of a VA millage request, and working with multiple veterans organizations on an ongoing basis. Welcome Home Veterans extends its gratitude to Rep. Frederick for his three years of service, expertise and influence. As ex-officio director, we value his continued faith in the great mission as we move forward with faith in every footstep.

Daniel J. Vela

VICE-PRESIDENT

Mr. Vela​ is a Flint native, a United States Marine, and Combat Veteran, serving with 2nd battalion 7th Marines in Iraq in 2007 and Afghanistan in 2009.

He has continued his service to country and his fellow vets within his community and is the chapter captain with the Flint Chapter TeamRWB (Team Red White & Blue) he also volunteers as a mentor within the Genesee County veterans court. He has continually worked with Veterans since returning home and is also a VA certified peer support specialist. ​

Robert L. Hardy

TREASURER

Mr. Hardy was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Graduated Finney High School, attended Macomb County Community College, McNeese State University and LSU. Graduate of Michigan Bankers Graduate School and Banking Institute University of Wisconsin at Madison. Enlisted in the US Army in 1967, served one tour in Vietnam 1968 with MACV Team 27 at Qui Nhon. ETSd as a Spec 5 from Fort Polk, Louisiana. Worked for Michigan National Bank as a lender and administrator for ten years, Key State Bank and Chemical Bank for the past 33 years. Was appointed to the Michigan Selective Service Board in 1997 by President Bill Clinton and Governor John Engler, on which I still serve. Active in the Shiawassee Owosso Kiwanis Club as Past President, Past Lt. Governor and current Board Member. Also volunteer with the American Red Cross, Water and Woods Boy Scouts for Genesee and Shiawassee County. Recently retired from banking after 43 years.

Brooke Bowen

DIRECTOR

As the co-owner of Welcome Home Assisted Living, Brooke is both passionate and committed to her profession. Brooke stands alongside her mother Kimberly Bowen in many aspects of Welcome Home Assisted Living and Welcome Home Veterans. Brooke sit on the board of Welcome Home Veterans as assistant treasurer. Brooke is a graduate of Lansing Community College with a degree in business along with a Dale Carnegie graduate with a certificate in Leadership. Brooke is also an active member of the Shiawassee Kiwanis Morning club. This upcoming summer Brooke will be entering a new chapter in her life by becoming Mrs. Jacob Sabaj.

Brent Singer

​Brent Singer is a small business owner of Farmers Insurance Brent Singer Agency in Owosso, Michigan since August 2017.

​As a committed community member, Brent serves on the board of The Healing Nest of Michigan, he is the president of Shiawassee Owosso Kiwanis and a Chamber Ambassador.

In his personal time Brent enjoys being outdoors, riding motorcycles, kayaking, and working on classic cars.

Brent’s passion to help others brought him to the insurance industry and he believes in the principle of treating others like he wants to be treated. He feels this principle is key to everything in life and a catalyst for great things to happen, to which he applies to his life, work and community engagement. He sees his involvement with WHV as an important commitment and opportunity to give back. He is willing to put in every effort needed toward WHV’s vision and goals. “Knowing [the facility] will help others for many years beyond my life time, is a great feeling,” stated Brent, “very rewarding.”

Brian Keesler

Pastor Brian Keesler is the senior pastor of New Creation Church in Owosso, MI. Brian received ordination in 2003, but he has been sharing the life changing message of grace and hope through Jesus Christ since 1994. He has earned a Bachelors degree in Theology and Biblical Studies through Life Christian University and is currently enrolled in a graduate program earning a Masters degree in the same area of study. Pastor Brian is a member of and ordained through the Righteous Preachers Network, a ministerial organization of Mark Barclay Ministries.
